At the hour of death the holy Masses you have heard devoutly will be your greatest consolation.
He forgives you all the venial sins which you are determined to avoid. He forgives you all your unknown sins which you never confessed. The power of satan over you is diminished.
Every Mass will go with you to Judgment and will plead for pardon for you.
By every Mass you can diminish the temporal punishment due to your sins, more or less, according to your fervor, shorten your Purgatory, and win for you a higher degree of glory in Heaven.
By every Mass you will be blessed in temporal affairs and goods, and preserved from many dangers and misfortunes that would otherwise have befallen you.
By devoutly assisting at Holy Mass you render the greatest homage possible to the Sacred Humanity of Our Lord.
Through the Holy Sacrifice, Our Lord Jesus Christ supplies for many of your negligences and omissions.
By piously hearing Holy Mass you afford the Souls in Purgatory the greatest possible relief.
COME TO MASS!
The Sacrifice of the Mass is the same as the Sacrifice on the Cross. The Holy Mass is the daily renewal of the Sacrifice of Calvary. Jesus Christ offers Himself on our altars by the ministry of priests, under the appearance of bread and wine, to apply to our souls the merits of His Passion and Death.
As the Redemption of man is the greatest event in history, so the Sacrifice of the Mass is the most marvelous think in the world. Jesus, Our Lord and Savior, is the High Priest and the Victim, offering Himself to His Eternal Father with all the riches of His Divinity, and with all the splendors of His Sacred Humanity. The Holy Mass is the most sacred, solemn, and sublime act of religious worship that we can perform.
The Imitation of Christ says: “When a priest celebrates Mass he honors God, he rejoices the angels, he edifies the Church, he obtains blessings for the living, rest for the dead, and makes himself a partaker of all that is good. All this is the fruit of a single Mass.
Dear friends, try to hear Mass often and devoutly. Go to Mass every day if you can, because every Mass you hear will profit you more than all your prayers and good works. It costs so little to hear Mass – only a short half hour to one hour of your time. These few moments taken from your work to hear Mass on week days are not lost; on the contrary, God’s very special blessing hovers over those that devoutly hear Mass in the morning.
Every morning the church bells ring out to you saying: “COME TO MASS, COME TO MASS”. Will you also say, “I cannot come,” as those who made excuses who were invited to the great supper mentioned in the Gospel? Remember, the Mass is the renewal of the great Drama of Calvary and the means of applying the fruits of the Cross to our souls, and that these fruits are given to us more or less abundantly, according to the measure of our piety and fervor. Strive, therefore, to hear Mass as often as you can with great reverence, faith, love, and gratitude to God for so noble a gift, for so precious a consolation left unto us in the vale of tears. So please,
COME TO MASS!
